Toronto’s Hottest Burger Challenge is Back

Danforth Fires Up the BBQ’s for Second Annual Thrill of the Grill

The Danforth Experience Thrill of the Grill is back, bigger and better than before. Six of the Danforth’s excellent restaurants and food shops will compete for the title of Slider Supreme. The public is invited to judge and proceeds will go to the Broadview Community Youth Group.

Last year, Zach Davidson, The Friendly Butcher took top honours. This year, he is in tough against Chefs Matthew Barber of The Combine Eatery, Mali Fernandez of Embrujo Flamenco Jerry Sathisivam of Factory Girl, Kevin McKenna of Globe Bistro and John Robertson of The Big Carrot, who will be premiering Thrill of the Grill’s first veggie burger.

“The Danforth is renowned for the quality and diversity of its food and hospitality in addition to its many boutiques and specialty stores,” said Susan Puff, executive director of the Danforth Business Improvement Area (BIA). “Thrill of the Grill is a sizzling opportunity to bring some of them together to showcase their talents in a fun competition that will also support a worthwhile charity.”

For $5.00 visitors to Thrill of the Grill can sample all six sliders and vote for their favourite. Children 10 and under eat for $3.00. Bottled Eska water is also supplied.
The Danforth Experience Thrill of the Grill will be held Saturday July 23: noon - 3:00 pm. New to this year’s event is the location: Jackman Avenue from Danforth to Hurndale (road closed); and the introduction of beer sampling and an old fashioned lemonade stand.

The Danforth BIA works with more than 350 merchants, restaurants and services to provide a unique, urban shopping, dining and entertainment experience along Danforth Avenue.

The Danforth Experience is a series of signature street events held throughout the year to introduce Toronto to the unique tastes, style and services of the Danforth.

Broadview Community Youth Group provides physical, educational, cultural and social opportunities for children in youth in the community.
