Allen’s Named Legendary Landmark by DiRoNA

from GoodFoodRevolution

LOUISVILLE, KY (November 11, 2010) – Distinguished Restaurants of North America (DiRōNA) has announced Allen’s Restaurant in Toronto, Canada as the organization’s inaugural Legendary Landmark member.

The Legendary Landmark member category, which is one of three new categories in DiRōNA’s restyled membership structure, recognizes celebrated Comfort Food and Legendary Regional Fare. Restaurants in this category are distinguished by local flair and a rich history, with a menu and atmosphere that appeals to locals and is prized by visitors seeking authentic regional fare. They must also be in business under the same name and theme for at least ten years.

Allen’s Restaurant, styled as Toronto’s home of traditional Irish music and dance, stands as a tribute to the Irish-American saloons of owner John Maxwell’s native New York. The menu offers selections such as oak-smoked salmon on soda bread, Dublin lamb shank braised in Guinness and a Cumbrae veal loin chop with grilled endive. The traditional décor boasts tin ceilings, oak plank floors and the extensive use of well-polished wood paneling. Allen’s has been in business for 23 years and has received numerous awards, including the Wine Council of Ontario’s Award of Excellence and TopRestaurants.com’s Award of Distinction.

“We are pleased to welcome our very first Legendary Landmarks members,” said Jeff Allen, DiRōNA’s Executive Director. “We recognize that there are many facets to exceptional dining, and Allen’s represents a unique experience that fits well within our exclusive family of distinguished establishments.”

About Distinguished Restaurants of North America (DiRōNA)
DiRōNA, an independent, non-profit organization, was established in 1990 to recognize and promote excellence in dining across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Utilizing a rigorous and anonymous inspection process, DiRōNA scrutinizes every aspect of the dining experience, including food, service, and decor. Establishments found to demonstrate excellence on all levels are awarded the prestigious DiRōNA Achievement of Distinction in Dining. To date, fewer than 800 restaurants have received this highly regarded recognition.
