About our BIA

Did you know there are five BIAs along the Danforth? That’s right! Broadview Danforth BIA is the first one you enter when coming from the west. We span from Broadview Avenue to Hampton Avenue (near St. Barnabas Church and Carrot Common) along Danforth, and from Pretoria to Dearbourne on Broadview.

The others that follow are Greektown, Danforth Mosaic (The Danny), Danforth Village, and Crossroads.

Broadview Danforth BIA (BDBIA) was formed in 1987—one of the earliest BIAs in Toronto. Toronto is the epicenter of the BIA movement, and now you’ll find hundreds of them all over the world.

A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a group of commercial and industrial property owners and their non-residential tenants who work together—under a volunteer Board of Management—to carry out improvements and promote economic development in their area.

There are currently 83 BIAs in the @cityofto. Each works in partnership with the City to enhance and promote their districts as safe, vibrant places to do business, explore, and enjoy.

The BIA Board is responsible for administration and strategy. Among their duties, BIA Boards:

  • Oversee improvement, beautification, and maintenance of municipally-owned land and infrastructure
  • Promote the area as a business, employment, tourism, and shopping district
  • Undertake safety, security, and crime-prevention initiatives
  • Develop strategic plans for local needs
  • Advocate on behalf of the BIA's interests
